Interviewing with my apprentice!

The Citizen Jane Project consisted of 19 artists and 12 apprentices creating a series of murals in the First Street Garden in Manhattan, in conjunction with The Lower Eastside Girls Club of NY. Each artist selected from a list one figure who was instrumental in advocating for women’s rights throughout history. Some of the women included were Susan B. Anthony, Emma Goldman, Jane Adams, Sojourner Truth, Eleanor Roosevelt, Harriet Tubman, and more. I painted three murals for the project (the women I painted were: Shirley Chisholm, Julia Alvarez and Grace Paley) and I also helped to coordinate and art direct the artists.

It was a privilege to work with such a talented,  passionate, and amazing group of female artists, and I feel wildly lucky to have been a part of the project! Everyone came to the project with their own individual style, voice and method of working, which was incredibly inspiring to be surrounded by.
